One of the tuning pegs on my 2008 American Standard Jazz is slipping. The screw that hols the gear is as tight as it will go. Anyone have a fix for this? Thanks

What do you mean by "slipping"?

When the strings is tuned to pitch, the knob turns backwards on its own, loosening the string.

Call Fender Tech Support in Scottsdale, Arizona. They will help you, maybe even send you a new tuner.

I did. They told me that tuners have a 1 year warranty. They offered to give me the part number for a replacment though. How nice. I think I will remove the gear and cut a shim to go under it to see if I can generate some friction to hold it in place. Thanks

Can you physically see the tuner turning on its own? Wow thats bizarre. Have you done anything with the nut slot on that string?

The only reason I ask is that I have an 08 P-bass and the tuners are the most rock solid Ive ever had.

Yes, you can see the tuner button turn. I have done nothing to the nut or anything else.

I have a 95 American with pretty much the same issue, but not as bad as yours. Mine just loosens up with playing. The screw that attaches the gear only holds the gear on the splined shaft. To me it seems to be the flat spring that holds tension on the worn gear is too thin, too weak. Where to get a stronger spring? I don't know. I just ordered some old stye Fender tuners from Just Parts, you will have to drill screw mounting holes. The old style tuners have a heavier spring to provide more tension. You could try bending the spring to get more tension, but it also may break. Good luck., keep us posted please.

Oops, forgot to add I had to get new bushings for the shafts too, and open up the holes for them in the headstock. Nothing seens to be easy.
