Modifying a P-Bass

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey TB
I've got a Fender Precision 95 P-Bass (Sunburst body with rosewood neck, The most basic precision evar)

Anyhow, I want to upgrade it with a maple neck and maybe different strings (I'm currently using Flats which aren't versatile but pretty cool for 70's stuff

Basically I'm looking for maple neck + tuners and some good strings that I will have great punchy sound like Madness or Iron Maiden

And that I will have the ability to lower the tone to 0 X:

Thanks

Why not just use the original tuners?? If I recall steve harris already uses flats.Trythe Roto Steve Harris Signature Flats or D'addario Chromes. And you can get a maple neck from allparts, mightmite,or warmoth.

I think some people don't give flats a chance. Try getting some roto flats or d'addario's,crank the tone on full with your p bass and play with a pick. You get some real power and punch, and still retain a ton of bottom end.

The problem is that the ADG are punchy and the E string sound is totally dead and no punch at all

Is that the ErnieBall flats or the setup? Cause the bass does need a setup

I'd go ahead, buy a pack of chromes, then go and get it set up or set it up yourself. Strings could be old or it could be pickup height. Who knows.

I dont know, I have no experience with EB flats, but I just bought a set of chromes last week and the E string doesn't sound flat at all.

chromes are nice, i agree check the pickup height first.
i used to use chromes but didnt like them for everything.
im in a worship band and a cover band so sometime its hard to play certain songs with flats but other times theyd be perfect
i started used DR xtra lifes and they are very nice! allows a lot of versatility.
id say though if your eb strings are brand new its not the strings id be checking.

The pickup height is kinda low, Should I raise it?
BTW, How are Warmoth necks?

i put some fralins, a badass bridge, and a varitone stellatone styler on my pbass...the fralins might not be the tone youre looking for, but the bridge DEF adds some clarity and ridiculous sustain, and the varitone gives you some really sweet tonal options

I'm not looking to modify electronics or the bridge, Just want to swap the neck to a maple one and find some good strings

You should raise the pickups. Warmoth necks are a little more chunkier because they have reinforced rods in them, and a little heavier, but probably the best aftermarket neck you can buy.

So I should go for a Warmoth neck + Chrome flats amirite?
Cool.

I might ask here for differences between fretwear and stuff when I'll order

I've seen some Allparts necks in eBay, They must be worst then the Warmoth right?
