Modulus 6 String FL no truss-rod: adjustment?

Sign in to disble this ad
I have a older six-string quantum fretless (and e-bay special).

The instrument doesnt have a truss rod (at least on that i can find)--didnt know they didn't have them.

The bass sounds and plays well but I think my preference would be a slightly different relief.

Is there a way to adjust the necks on these? Shimming? what have you TB'rs done?

Question no rod

are you wating more relief or less? if you shim the neck it changes the angle of the neck in relation to the bridge.....so if you want lower action that would be the way to go....i work for a shop that used to be a modulus dealer and have owned 3 over them...but never needed to change the amount of relief....they now have truss rods...from 2000 to pres...if you send it back to them they put a new neck on for free..if your the original owner...you got yours used..so i dont know what they would chrg.hope i helped

Exactly what change in the way the bass plays now are you trying to achieve? I'm a little confused. Why change an instrument that already plays and sounds well?

I was under the impression that the relationship between bow and bridge height will vary the amount of "mwahh" on higher positions vs. lower.

To get a nice buzz on the middle of the neck turns the higher notes into "zing"

The bass sounds good--im talking about small refinements.

Let me get this straight..

If I'm the original owner of a Modulus that is pre-truss rod, they'll replace the neck with one with a truss rod for free?

Yup! They no longer make necks without truss rods. So if they were to honor their lifetime guarantee to the original owner they would have to put a neck with a truss rod on.

Wouldn't that only be honored if the original neck were so defective that it would have to be replaced under warranty?

Hmmm, interesting.. I didnt know that. I doubt I'll ever do it.. I've had this neck for 10 years with no problems at all.. Even though I might think I would be "upgrading" to a truss rod neck, I'd be afraid of not getting the same feel I have now..

Thanks for the info..
