oh my... this is a sad story from the begining.
buy a guitar off ebay, misleading description ect; had star stickers all over it (lol good boy billy) and theres what im pretty sure are tac holes in the fretboard.
oh and the body is a bit manged up too; but thats another story; either way I left it at my father-in-laws so he had a bass in the house to play with, he never touched it and it just sat in the case... I went to play it when I was there one day and there was mold growing on the fretboard argh.
that and iv got nfi what to do about the holes, can I plug them with something? its a old westone bass and i would like to salvage it |

A tactical hole?
A hole left from too many games of tic-tac-toe?
Take a bit more time and type carefully, please....

The mold is an interesting one - I've never heard of that, but it's definitely an indicator that the wood is not sealed and there's too much moisture. Is the fretboard maple, by chance? Finger sweat on unfinished maple fretboards turns green, so you could just be mistaking it for that.
You say "tack" holes, so I'm inclined to think that they are tiny, like a thumb tack. It's too tiny to be a termite hole, so I suspect that it's not a pest of any sort. Just in case, to go the hardware store, buy some mineral oil and wood putty in the same color as your fretboard. Clean the fretboard with the mineral oil and use the putty to fill the holes. After the putty is dry, you might look into a wood sealant, just in case there is some wood-chomping creature eating its way through.

tac = thumbtack, and im pretty sure they are actual thumbtack holes as they aren't a perfect hole either; the stickers were on there when I bought the bass (i'm not that silly).
and the mold is white circular spore shapes D: i'm going to head in and buy some mineral oil today hopefuly.
also: the fretboard is rosewood I belive. |

The mold is odd - perhaps a thorough wipe-down with undiluted Lysol?

I have not seen the first but I have seen the second.
If you keep your bass in a basement you may need to run a dehumidifier in the summer and a humidifier in the winter ... depending on your climate. |
