I took some advice and sent my extremely rare Modulus Bassstar (1978) to Graphite Guitar Systems. My bass was in an awful state.

I REALLY don't get this--how can, "pretty good deal", and, "sub par, shoddy, and hastily completed", be in the same sentence, and make any sense?

YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR.

When work has to be re-done, it's not a "pretty good deal" even if it was free. You had to spend additional money, plus you were without the instrument for two cycles of service, not just one.

But you make decisions based on the best information you have at the time, and after the event, you often have better information. This is clearly one of those times!

It is not that I mind being without my bass, since I have others to play, I just expected more professional quality than I got. But BUYER BE WARE and sometimes you really do get what you pay for. I don't really think that sending it to Modulus would have given me a much greater job, but I am sure it would have been done correctly.
sounds like GGS botched the job so saying Mod would have given you a 'much greater job' is sort of confusing! Sounds like GGS simply took your money.
I'm about to send a bass to him....well I have been for a while anyways.

I'm missing what I hope is the middle part of this. The part where, after receiving the bass from GGS, you called Jerry to discuss your lack of satisfaction. And hopefully in that conversation you stated your needs and expectations, the two of you discussed what he could do to make things right, and you asserted what would happen if the two of you couldn't reach an agreement.

Did such a conversation occur? I, like everyone I suspect, appreciate hearing about a negative experience as a means of preventing future problems. I'm just hopeful that the vendor knows this qualifies as one. Can you go into a little more detail about the gap between your expectations and the end result? I'm not trying to bust chops here - honest - but it just seems really surprising that the first vendor wouldn't want to make things right...whether that involves a second attempt or a refund. All the best to you on this one.

Bummer.... Not for nothin, I would have sent the bass back to Modulus. As a manufacturer they have a vested interest in doing the job right. Regardless of what they quoted you was all this worth the hardship, added repair cost and down time?

I see that. I talked with both before I sent my bass out. GGS had information about the bass and had the background as to the rareity of the bass. Jerry was probably the guy who put it together in 1978. I just thought it was a better decision.

So, you just had a good ol' time slagging GGS here, huh?

Can you say, "customer from hell?"
