Moses composite necks and their truss rods : questions

Sign in to disble this ad
I made a post in the string forum about this but I didn't get a response, so I'll post here.

Moses composite necks have truss rods, but the Moses website implies that these are typically only maniupated during initial installation of the neck. Does this mean then that if I switched to a much lower string tension (fender 9050Mflats to TI jazz flats), that I would not need to adjust the truss rod?

I've heard that different composite necks have different amounts of strength, are moses necks strong enough to carry uneven tunings & changing string gauges without adjustment?

Thanks

oh... another question that I posted in the string forum but only got one response to: If i perform the above string change, would I need to replace the nut?

I installed a Moses neck on my Stingray. I did have to adjust the truss rod once to fine tune it and once again when switching to low tension strings, but it wasn't much. I would expect you might have to if switching to TI flats after adjusting it for a heavier tension string. It's the same procedure as adjusting the truss rod on a wooden neck. You'll find that once set where you want it, you'll likely never have to change it again unless you change to different tension strings.

I had no trouble with the Moses neck handling high string tension.I also installed a Moses neck on a G&L and that required a bit of modification of the neck pocket and was a real pain. Nothing to do with the neck though. it just wasn't meant for the G&L, but the guy who bought it wanted to make it work on his L2000. After a lot of work it did. He had to do a bit of fret levelling later, as I did with mine. If you're used to doing it it's an easy enough job.

You'll have to try the TIs with your nut. You may have to replace it. I can't remember if the Moses neck came with a nut or not. It was a long time ago.
