So I recently bought an Ibanez SR1005EFM (say what you will about the bass; focusing on the bridge).
Anyhow, it comes with an MR-IV Bridge (
http://ibanez.com/bass/guitar.aspx?m=SR1005EFM). You can see from the pictures offered that the B comes tapered right out of the box. And that was wonderful: it was clear, resonant, and tight like a 5 year old's t-shirt. Problem was, the E wasn't tapered whatsoever, and consequently didn't rest in the saddle and buzzed a bit.
So with this in mind, I changed the strings to DR High Beams (Gauge .125-.45), giving it a .105 E. Perfect fit! No more E buzzing. But plenty of new B buzz. Realizing I needed tapered strings for both of these, I went out and got a set of DR tapered Long Scale strings.
And thus came the nightmare: The tapered strings screwed enough with my action that now the notes in the higher register on each string have fret buzz and sound both that note and the note above it.
I've raised the action, loosened the truss rod...I didn't push that too hard for fear of causing damage to my instrument.
So, can anyone offer me advice on what to do here, short of taking it to a tech?
EDIT:
Had my friend come and look at it today only to find that I still get the bad notes even with the truss rod turned in either direction. Raised the action, etc. No dice.
Changed the strings back to untapered and left the B tapered, since I don't realistically play "high" notes on the B string.
Anyone know why tapered strings did that?
