Muddy E + A

Sign in to disble this ad
hey guys. I've been playing bass for about 2 years, and just recently replaced the strings myself for the first time. (I had others do it the other times) but the E and A string sound muddy as hell, to the point where I can't even get them tuned.. I don't know if I messed up somewhere, or the new strings, or the saddles or what.

I'm using a 5-String Ibanez Soundgear SR 305 Dx (crap I know.)
the strings are Elixir.

What exactly is your problem? muddy means the sound is lacking definition, this does not relate to tuning the strings... what is happening exactly?

i think i know your problem
if you dont get enough windings aroung the stringp posts, the strings wont be pressed onto the nut hard enough to get a defined sound
look at this

My low D string (tuned down) got particularly muddy. Strings a month old or so but the rest still sound fairly clear, the low D is just a solid mass of bass, none of the power punchiness and mids of the other 3. The have enough winds and everything looks near perfect. Maybe I just got a less than stellar pack of strings.

Maybe the same for you too.
