multiple tunings bad for neck?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi,

this may have been discussed before, but on my main bass, I tune down a half step for band rehearsal, and gigs, then standard pitch the rest of the time. Any danger in going back and forth like that? aside from never really getting the ideal set-up?

thanks

Not that I can think of. You just have to make sure to adjust the truss rod accordingly every time (if you have to). But half a step isn't so bad...

+1 on everything he said.

A neck is stronger than it looks.

I've found that constantly changing tunings tends to mess with the neck a little bit. My intonation was always off a wee bit (as in I would set intonation, drop my tuning, go back to original tuning and intonation would be off), of course, I was dropping whole steps.

Thankfully, I don't need to do that anymore.
