Music Store/Luthier in Winnipeg

Hey Folks,

I'm recently moved to Winnipeg, and am looking for recommendations on a place to take my basses for repairs/tuneups. Right now I'm just needing a setup on my fretless, and maybe my 5 string, but I'm sure there'll be more work down the road.

Any suggestions on good stores or luthiers to bring them to? I had a good guy in Calgary, so it'd be nice to find someone out here. I'm scared about just picking some place at random to bring it into.

Thanks!

Welcome to Winnipeg - "Where Car Thieves Come to Play" (my own city slogan!)

A good luthier? Depends where you are in town...

Terry Barnett works out of Mother's Music on Wall Street - he's done some AWESOME work for me (including swapping necks, rerouting neck pockets, and wiring harnesses)

Brian Tataryn owns the Ultimate Guitar Works on Henderson Highway - awesome luthier! This guy can fix ANYTHING! I've had him do work for me also. The nice thing about Brian is that if he figures a repair is a waste of money, he'll tell you right off the bat!

Ask any "Peg guitar or bass player - I'm sure most of us has had dealings with either one of these guys at one time or another!

Good luck!

ps - both of these guys are very reasonably priced as well!

oh ok. I'm in the west end. I've been checking out places like Quest, St. Johns and Encore. The guys at Quest were amazingly helpful, St. Johns are more piano/band oriented, and the guys at Encore are those i'm-too-important-and-too-amazing-a-musician-to-help-you kind of people that I have no patience for.

I'll definitely check out Mother's and Ultimate Guitar works though.
