Mwah sound on a fretted?!

Sign in to disble this ad
I've got an MIM J-bass that's a few years old. A few months ago I noticed something strange. Some of the notes on the g-string have a mwah sound (like a fretless). It happens most from the 5th to the 10th fret, particularly when digging in or plucking near the neck. Any ideas on what's causing it and how to get rid of it? I've tried adjusting the truss and the action with no luck. Thanks in advance for any help.

Probably hitting a fret just enough to get a light buzz, which unless I'm mistaken is basically the same as the source of the fretless mwah - a light buzz against the rest of the fingerboard. Check for high frets in the area you mentioned.

Dude! There are players that are ACHING to get that tone!
Sorry you need to get rid of it!
If you ever find out why you can get it on a fretted bass, let the rest of us know, okay?
