My bass needs work. Anyone know any places in los angeles? small local places, any

hi,
i did some searching but i can't seem to find a thread that was helpful.

my 70's MIJ p-bass copy needs work. my pickups are way too close to the strings for how i play, BUT i love the way the action feels, low, no buzz. i cant get the pickups any lower. i've noticed on my bass that the neck is set in the body slightly deeper than the fender p-basses i've seen. that is what led me to believe that i might need some woood work done on the bass so the pickups can set in lower.

other work:
2)add a J pickup for the bridge position
3) have a new pick guard cut and installed because fender replacements dont fit.

Anyone know a place in LA?
im sorry if i posted in a totally wrong category
I'd appreciate any help, a link to another thread that would be of help? anything. thankyou

The Bass Exchange / Amp Shop in the Valley. It's on the corner of Woodman and Ventura. Great gear and a great tech.

+1 on Carruthers shop in Venice. Last time I was there, he had named it "17th Street Guitars" or something like that. John is one of the most knowledgable luthiers around and his staff is top notch.

Van Nuys

Did a nice setup on my P bass and setup/PU replacement on my Jazz. Now does all the work on my guitarist's guitars. Well respected. Reasonable. Has base prices posted on his site.

13th Street Guitars, of Huntington Beach/Orange County?
The luthier at 13thStreetGuitars is a Hugh, not a John, so probably not.

I would suggest 13thStreetGuitars though, Hugh did a wonderful job routing my Jazz bass.
I had him add do a P bass routing, a rear route cavity, and a 3 way blade switch slot.

I'm not sure if he does pickguards or not, but he did make me the plastic cover for the rear cavity he routed.
