My bass won't tune HELP?

Sign in to disble this ad
My bass hasn't been played for about 4 months because I was in the hospital and I have been trying to tune it for about 10 minutes and it won't.
How do i know if something is wrong with it? It's my first bass so I am still kind of clueless it is fender squier jazz bass if that matters.

I am assuming your using an electronic tuner; which is fine. Is the tuner just not showing an accurate reading? This is why I like chromatic tuners. Go slow with the tuning peg, you might be over/under shooting the desired note. The strings could be an issue.

Check the setup stickies, and especially make sure the strings are wound around the tuners properly. Sounds to me like they're wound improperly and slipping. Even old strings will tune up.

be careful you aren't way past the right note and trying to tune it to the next octave up!

are you using a tuner?
