If the post upon which it is normally assigned is a split shaft - just gently-yet-forcefully import it back into it's normal position, paying special attention to noticing that the open end is hidden whence it is returned to it's said position and is not visible to the player (you) nor the audience (other people).
You may need to effect the re installation with the aid of a screwdriver, This requires advanced knowledge in how to hold and appropriately use a screwdriver.
Wear correct safety gear, goggles and remain grounded to keep static electrical charges from arcing the electronics inside the bass and causing a ruinous after effect.
Either way - place the so-affected knob on the shaft from whence it had comith. You must them assume if you are mechanically astute sufficiently, to tighten the setscrew in the knob, yourself.
Or not. |

Or not. | Damn, sound like a difficult repair. Next time I have to change a knob I'll bring the bass to a qualified tech. |

Now: OFF means that there is somewhere that the knob (in this case) fell FROM.
And, NO - a preposition is something to never end a sentence with. |

Do this over a solid surface --- not on a chiffon bedcover or out in the back yard, or over the lawn. The little screw might fall out and go to Never-Never Land.
Some screws are slotted; some are Allen or six-sided female. They vary.
PS: I noticed that I assumed it's the knob that fell OFF and didn't take the shaft with it. My bad
This is beginning to sound like my wedding night.

THAT'S the inside of the knob, and you need to look at the SIDE of the knob.
This is going smoothly. wot? |
