My Frankenstein bass, and you can too!

(Small Colbert reference in the title there if you dig )

Anyway, you may have seen one or more of my 10,000 recent threads on the badass bridge, which I gave up on finding. I opted instead to buy a Gotoh 4 String bridge, which was delivered to me today.

With a racing heart and sweaty palms, I changed out the bridge myself, and succeeded! It sounds INCREDIBLE!!!! The sustain is unreal, and it did so much for my tone, it made my nearly 8 months old strings sound brand new.

I put this AWESOME bridge on my Fender FSR MIM J, which I bought a few years ago for only $500. After a rousing success with this upgrade, my next move in a few months is going to be a pair of EMG J pickups.

So the point being, if you're in the market for a replacement bridge, and can't find the badass or something else, get this Gotoh bridge! It's excellent! Also, I'm suggesting to bassists on a budget like myself to buy cheaper basses, and upgrade over time until they're high end!

Often improvements like this seem huge because mentally we want them to be, so we hear more difference than may be there.

Whenever possible I try to record something before the swap, then directly after with all the same settings to accurately define if the difference is real or self created by the brains intent to justify an upgrade.

lol I was actually thinking that myself, but in fact I did do something similar to that, in that I played, and tried to ingrain the sound I was hearing in my brain before the switch.

The thing I've always liked about my J bass is that I can get any tone I want out of it; bassy, dead upright sound, Jaco sound, P bass...and the new bridge without a doubt enhanced that quality, in that the knobs seem more sensitive to the changes.

It also gave it a much warmer, full-bodied tone. Is my excitement about it more my brain being obsessed with things like bass tones? Well probably, but it's still cool
