My Highway One Precision needs some help

Sign in to disble this ad
Got this used a few years back, and the fretboard looked more or less like it does in this shot. It has no effect on the way it sounds, but I wouldn't mind making it a little more beautiful... What can I do to it?

Thanks!

just oil it with some fretboard conditioner or lemon oil.

It is just dry where you don't play it as much. Clean it off with some fine steel wool and naptha, then oil it. I use pure tung oil. But not tung oil finish! The oil doesn't dry hard and is really great for this.

This.

Take the strings off, clean the fretboard. Use the lemon oil. Do it a few times. Its just dry.

I've gotten excellent results with Scott's Liquid Gold for fretboard care - it actually works better than the Kyser Lem-Oil I bought...

Yeah, I've been kinda torn on whether it's mojo, or just neglect. I'm thinking it's the latter....

Thanks for your advice, all! Three bucks for fretboard conditioner is within my budget...

sometimes rosewood is just that color; i wouldn't sweat it too much.

the real issue is the off-center spacing; you've got the E a lot closer to the edge of the neck than the G.

the fix is simply to loosen the 4 neck screws, push the neck over until both outside strings line up with the edges of the neck, then re-tighten.
