Is my hipshot a style bridge normal?

Sign in to disble this ad
Except for one pic of these bridges they all have 4 holes for mounting screws. In the one pic I found it looks like maybe has just 3 holes but cant be certain. Mine that arrived yesterday just has 3. The 3rd hole is dead center rather then haveing 2 inbetween the outer two. I would have preferred it have 4 mounting screws but I geauss 3 is ok. Just wondering bout it, did I get a non standard version? Is the a style brass no string thru body version in black. Others Ive seen in person had 4 holes. Thanks for any input.

Got it to give my eagle a black instead of chrome bridge for asthetics. Ended up postioning the screw holes about 1/4 in front of the previous holes which I filled. Seems fine installed. Nice bridge and easy fast load for strings is a plus. And the little bit of string spaceing adjustment is useful. Has the nice even well defined tone Ive grown to expect from qaulity brass bridge. Bell tones for all fret positions come a little easier to.

Sent hipshot an email about it. Looking more closely at it, it isnt a fluke with missing hole. Cause the center hole isnt where the holes clearly are on the 4 hole versions. With mine the outer holes are in diff place to. Which required removing the bridge saddle assembly and screw/spring part to install the screw on the E string side. Its under the intonation adjustment screw. So I'm geaussing & expect hipshots responce will be that mine was drilled as direct replacement with no new holes needed for some specific mfg bass.

Yeah, you got a "retrofit" bridge designed for Fender-style basses.

Hipshot makes the A Style bridge in standard 4 hole and 3 hole Fender styles.

I was just on the Hipshot site.

It appears the Fender is for a five-hole pattern ... but only uses the middle and outside holes.

Got email reply from hipshot. Is for american fender, the one I got from MF, 3 hole. Tech said 3 holes is more then adaquete so long as the holes in body are in great condition. Mine are since drilled new starter holes for them. It is confusing them haveing 3, 4 & 5 hole fender replacement ones. If MF had given choices for hole numbers would have picked the 4 hole one instead. Lol. But 3's ok since is allready on the bass. If I got the 4 hole one now Id have to redo holes again and thatd be too many times. Lol.
