| | | | This is my new bass - but the neck was junk!

Hi!
I found this bass where the neck was messed up. A big crack plus the truss rod was also off. So I still bought the bass fully aware that it needs a new neck. This is a new and unused body. At first sight I liked this special color, but I'm not convinced that I will like after a long period of time.
Any suggestions on a neck to put on this one? I could of course try to find the neck that comes with this bass, with the same color on the headstock and body, but I'm willing to try another neck. Either a good quality, new licenced made neck, or a used Squier neck.
If I keep this bass I want to modify it with better pickups, pots and so on. Maybe also a different bridge. What do you think of all black hardware on this one?

Buy a used neck on EBay, install it and play it.

I would test it, measure it, and clean it up, prior to making any buying decisions.
Just a thought. |

Just a thought. | If you would've bothered to read the OP, it clearly says that it was bought in "new and unused" condition. If you would've bothered to look at the posted photo, you'd see that he stickers are actually the stickers applied at the factory. I would also venture to guess that the pickguard still has the protective film on it given the existence of the Squier sticker.
Electrophonic, a Fender Aerodyne Jazz neck would look awesome on that body, those basses have matching headstocks and were made in a gunmetal color similar to the color of your body. Check out EBay for those necks, they pop up now and again.

| | | I got a Mighty Mite Jazz neck off Ebay.
It is nice for the price. It does not have
the fit and finish of a MIA jazz, but it is
very playable. There are no high frets.
The neck was adjusted so that I did not
even have to touch the truss rod nut.
I was able to get a very low action.

The guy is going to put money into something that is of unknown quality.
If that's the way you do your thing; wonderful.
I would refer some insurance before I would put any cash into something that MAY yet have other issues upon other issues. |

In your first post you used the term "youthful previous owner" in conclusion to the stickers. I was only correcting your assumption of the origin of the stickers and that the body was in fact new and not as you had assumed with the words "previous owner".

Saw this in the classifieds here. Maybe a good fit for you? Don't know that guy, but know you're looking for a neck.

| | | | Thanks guys for all your replies.
I've had many neck options in the back of my head. I had almost decided on a good MM neck that I might paint later, but we'll see if I can buy the loaded Squier neck TC2112 has for sale. Maybe I will paint that headstock to match the body later. I don't know yet. My main priority is to find a good neck that will do this bass and myself justice without spending a lot of cash. As Pilgrim has pointed out, there's not need to turn this into a $400 bass.
I'll add some facts to the little debate here: I was in a local shop and was told by one of the guys there that they had received this bass, but the neck didn't look too good. Obviously cracked during shipping. For some reason (and I'm no technical expert) the truss rod was not good either. So I was given the chance to buy it cheaper (obviously) "as is", and I decided to do that. Maybe I could have asked the guy in the shop to have the junk neck as well for spare parts, but then I had already said I wanted the body only and he had already taken the bass apart. I'm not sure I can go back now and ask for the parts. Oh well. |
