My Shergold is giving me problems again!

Basically I've been doing more work around the 16th-19th frets on my fretless Shergold.
But I keep getting a massive fretbuzz arounf the 19th fret which has forced me to play the 19th fret halfway behind the fretmarker.

Any ideas what I might be able to do to sort this out?

Fretbuzz on a fretless? That is a crazy problem. Consult your local alchemist.

It's either a problem in the bass itself or I'm doing something wrong!

Oh no....I don't trust myself to do this without screwing it up. Plus, I don't know how to do this on a Shergold cause they have strange features.

You might need a replane to get that fretboard level, but yes a trussrod adjustment first to make sure.

Hmmm, a buzz around the 19th "fret" on an instrument with 20 "frets" suggests an uneven board to me as well. Is it one string or all strings? It might be cured by raising the action slightly on the affected string(s), but I don't think adjusting the truss rod is going to help. Your bass is a defret right? Was the original lacquer coating removed and has it been replaced?

IMO, the truss rod wont cure this, as a truss rod doesnt adjust the board under one string at one position - sounds like JDGA is right. You have an uneven board at that point. A fretboard levelling could well be the answer

another possibility is that the string touches the neck pick up poles (it happened to me with my fretless). check it out youll just have to lower the pickup if this is the case.

Either way, it doesn't sound good.

Take the bass to a qualified repair person.

To me, it sounds like the fingerboard needs to be leveled. It's a minor operation, done it myself several times. But without seeing the bass (in person), I can only guess at the problem.
