My Spector Setup

hey guys,
i have noticed that the action is a little high on my spector ns2000 q4, and my dad recommended filing the nut or something like that. is that a wise decision?

Are the saddles all the way to the base of the bridge?

It depends. How high is the action when fretting the first fret?

Generally speaking, you're best off lowering the bridge saddles first. If that doesn't accomplish the task, look at the relief in the neck.

If the saddles are as low as they can go, the strings are buzzing, but the action is still too high at the first fret, your nut should probably be filed a little. If you're at this point, I'd recommend taking it to a professional.

after you've accomplished that and checking it all out, and you've tweaked the truss rod, adjusted the bridge saddles,set the intonation, and pickup height THEN if its still nessescary to lower it some more, use some 3k grit sand paper or the like, and gently sand out the string slot. one or two strokes at a time, until when you depress the string at the 3rd fret and the string just almost touches the first fret[at tuned tension mind you] (leave about a papers space inbetween). that is how my washburn was set up and it played like a dream.

if you don't feel comfortable doing this, then take it to a shop. and have them do it.
