Mystery bridge - No action?

Sign in to disble this ad
I have a Douglas WPB-955T fretless bass (no glory here). It has this nice-looking chrome bridge on which I can't figure out how to setup the action.

Maybe I'm simply not familiar with this kind of bridge, but I can't for the life of me figure out where I can play with the strings' height :

Thanks in advance

I bet the big flathead-screws on either side of the bridge control height on either side. Not unlike a Les Paul, or a double bass with adjustable feet. Hope this works!

Umm, aren't there set-screws under the strings, behind the saddles for this?

It's after searching for those that I posted here. There is a single small pressure screw on the side of the strings, but its function seems to simply prevent the saddles from sliding (if I remove the strings, each saddle simply falls off the bridge's "tracks").

Fretlessman, I have tried using the side flathead screws but it seems as though they aren't meant for this, or they're already set to their lowest. I'd say the second option is very plausible, although it means some deeper work is needed

Weird. I understand your explanation of the set-screws-I have a bridge with screws like that too. Anything under the little barrels that the strings sit on? Weird.

I have a bass with the same bridge, its the two big flathead screws, I have no trouble getting my action way lower than I need.

Those little pressure screws lock the saddles, as you found out.

Well I actually had to remove the bridge and put the threaded sleeves deeper in the body.

Thanks for the help, guys. Now for the pickup screws

Ah, that would explain it, mine has a rout the shape of the bridge under it, for a little extra clearance.

I have this same Bass, The flat headed screws on the sides are for the up-down. the small Allen screws are for the intonation, it locks the bridge in the slot and prevents it from sliding fore and aft.
I like this bass except for one thing, the position marker on top of the fret board are for FRETTED instruments and not fretless.
I hate this and will need to remark them. They are 1/2 step flat.
I wrote and told them about it.

Yes, I thought this was really disappointing. I suggest you use either pencil on the board or white water-based marker on the side. It works for me.

But honestly, for a 200-odd bass, I'm rather satisfied that it sounds good, and I'll fix the rest
