"Natural" Brass Knobs?

Sign in to disble this ad
While at rehearsal tonight I wasn't paying attention and managed to strip the vertical plastic threads in both of the knobs on my Squier VM Precision.

I'd like to replace them with unfinished brass knobs, but my google-fu is completely failing me.

Does anybody have ideas on where I can find anything like that? I'm specifically looking for knobs made of brass, rather than knobs with a brass coating.

Vertical and horizontal are relative terms that depend on the current orientation of your bass. When referring to pots and their knobs, the threads are either axial (pot bushing) or radial (knob set screw).

Is this the kind of thing for which you are looking?:

If I'm google image searching properly, I think they're pot bushing type knobs. When they aren't stripped, the knobs just pull right off.

As far as the knobs you linked, I'm looking for unpolished barrel knobs. Possibly something like this.

How would I know if they would fit?

They look like set screw knobs which will fit a push-on split shaft, but be aware that the knobs may wobble when you turn them as they may not tighten square to shaft. I think you may be able to buy little cylinders that fit over a split shaft to solve the problem. Try a search.

Also be aware that bare brass tarnishes and darkens with age. Hence most brass fittings, horns etc. are coated with a lacquer to keep them from tarnishing. To use hardcore bare brass means you have to periodically polish it with brasso etc.
