Necessary to seal a chip in the finish?

I put a bridge cover on my Jag today.

I pre-drilled the holes and used a screw that was a little wider then a pickguard sized screw. The drilling went well but when I threaded the screw it chipped some of the finish around the hole. It was more brittle then I thought it was. Even though as a whole the finish (no idea what it is, thick plasticy, poly?) is very rugged and hard to put a punch mark into.

Not a big deal to me really, the bridge cover hides the chips.

I am just curious if it would be a good idea to put something on the chipped spots to keep them from spreading further? Would a chip like that cause more cracking and finish peeling off in that area over time?

You can always put a drop of super glue in the chip area to anchor it if you wish.

Is the chip round, or does it come to a point? If it doesn't have any points, it shouldn't spread any further.

I have a chunk of finish on the back of one of my basses about the size and shape of a dime. It hasnt spread at all in the past year.

One of them has a semi point to it. Both are small, about no bigger then the inside of an input jack.

Long as it isn't sharp or have cracks spreading out from it, I wouldn't worry about it becoming an issue
