Neck bent sidewards

Sign in to disble this ad
the is a light bend in my bass neck, towards the g-string side. if you hold a bar along the side of the fretbord, it reveals a gap of about 1mm. the bend can be seen on both fretboard sides, parallel.
so its likely something that occured after production.

is that anything to worry about? is this due to tighter D and G strings than E and A? anything to cure it?

If it's truly warped and it occured after production, I don't know what you can do except hope it doesn't get worse. It would be tough to straighten it using heat if it's a sideways bend, without putting a serious warp in it. If the bass is worth it you can replace the neck if it's a bolt on. I had a Fender Jazz that did that. I got rid of it.

A bass neck shouldn't do that on any bass that's sold for use as a live gigging instrument. It's not the fault of the strings as long as you're not using some weird tuning. Keeping the bass out of extreme heat and direct sunlight is always a good idea. Like, don't store it in a hot closet or on top of a heat radiator.

the bass is fine otherwise.
