Neck is bowing backwards?

Sign in to disble this ad
I don't think I've ever had a bass do this...

4 string Epi non reverse Thunderbird. I recently replaced the awful stock bridge with a much nicer one.

The lower frets all buzz really bad up to the 7th fret. 1-5 pretty much lay on top of the frets.

The neck looks as if it is reverse bowing...

Before I changed the bridge the strings were doing this as well.

I don't have the extra cash right now to have this professionally set up... Any advice is much appreciated.

Back bow means you need to loosen the truss rod....lefty loosey

Go into the stickies for this forum, follow the links to the Jerzy Drozd Ultimate Guide for set up and learn how to setup your own bass.

It's easy and makes you feel in control of your bass's feel.

Loosen your truss rod about 1/4 turn to the left...... let it sit for an hour or so, and see how it looks. Just a 1/4 or even as little as 1/8th of a turn is all.

Thank you sir(s).

I have always done my own set ups with the exception of the truss rods. I don't like to mess with them just in case.
I have loosed the rod...it was crazy tight... and have already seen much improvement.

Thank you for your very fast response!

What's a setup w/o a trussrod adjustment?

I know several people that have gone as far as shimming the neck pocket, but have a deathly fear of adjusting a trussrod.

So setup w/o trussrod adjustment? It's possible. But a good one? Probably not.
