This is a maple warmoth neck that I sealed and finished with Behlan nitro spray lacquer with a little neck amber thrown in. After getting some wear I didn't like I stripped the neck using Citri-solve knowing that it might be able to take the amber off without going too deep in to the wood. After I removed the citri-solv I oiled the neck with lemon oil since it looked pretty dried out. Now it keeps producing this strange and ugly residue that I can sand down with steel wool but it comes back after a couple weeks. I don't know if I did some strange chemical reaction with all the stuff or how to fix it properly. Any suggestions?
My plan is to sand it with 800 paper, clean it with lacquer cleaner and then finish with some lightly tinted lacquer but this time make it thick enough so it doesn't wear. I don't want this stuff to come up through my final finish.
