Neck Dive - Jazz vs Precision body

Sign in to disble this ad
I have a Warmoth neck with old Fender tuners on a P-Bass body, with Badass Bridge. This combination is very neck heavy. I have tried moving the rear neck strap button, and that helps a little but not enough. Will I get better results from buying Hipshot ultralite tuners to replace the old monsters, or from switching to a Jazz Bass body? In other words, does a Jazz bass body counterbalance a heavy neck better than a P Bass body? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

neck dive is pretty common with a warmoth neck, that why i dont like em. overbuilt in my opinion. as far as the p vs. j body......i have not noticed an improvement with a j body. if you dont like the neck dive your having........get a HEAVY body.

I've got ultralites on a warmoth P neck and body- and it balances fine. the body is hard ash, and heavy, with a badassII bridge. 11lbs weight.

switching to ultralites you might notice the position of deadspots on the neck move towards the bridge.

Ultra lights may help some depending on the body weight. I tried a neck heavy Sadowsky recently. It had ultralights but a very light body. Shame really. Otherwise it was a nice bass.

I just got some ultralites and installed them. Didn't know what to expect, but the neck-diving problem seems to be completely solved (I also left the rear strap button pretty far up the side of the body) Thanks for your advice , everybody. Those old (1965) Fender tuning machines are incredibly heavy!
