Neck Finish on EB MM Stingray

Sign in to disble this ad
After about 20 years playing my Stingray, there are spots on the back of the neck where the finish has worn off, and I want to do something about it.

The neck has a gloss finish which I never liked because it doesn't allow my hand to slide the way I would like it to. Can the gloss be sanded down and, if so, how do you then protect the wood? Does this need to be done by a trained luthier?

Super fine sandpaper, very gently and evenly sand it down and then Tung Oil the back with a few coats... my 2 cents. Carvin necks are like this and are awesome.
