Neck Plate Pad/ Isolator pad

I tried doing a search for this, but I couldn't find anything.

Can anyone tell me what the neck plate pad/ isolator pad at Warmoth would be for?

They were on some 70's Fender guitar and basses.
It was basicly a gasket to keep the plate from digging into the body.Sort of like the fuzzy washers under the strap buttons.

Okay. That's what I figured. I just wondered if it made any significant tonal difference, but I guess not. Thanks.
