Neck pocket a little too deep

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi
I have a warmoth neck attached to a lovely unknown body. Might be Warmoth, not sure. The neck pocket seems to have been cut a little deep for this neck. The overhanging Warmoth fretbosrd rests on the body when attached without shims. With a small shim at the back of the pocket the angle keeps the fretboard off the body. I am thinking of a more 'elegant' solution.
The body is mahogany. Does anyone have some really thin slice of mahogany I can cut to neck pocket size? I want a piece that will be the same size as the pocket to effectively raise the neck evenly. Really, any wood would do but the mahogany would maybe look better if I cut the shim to the exact size of the heel of the neck.
Is this a good idea? Any other workable solutions?
Thanks

If the slice you want is quite thin, use a piece of card, cut to the right size and paint the edges with mahogany wood dye or brown paint. If it's cut to the same size of the pocket, no-one will notice (unless they're a setup pro, or you told them)
