Neck problems

Sign in to disble this ad
I've owned a fender standard jazz bass for about 7 to 8 months now. A couple months ago I had to adjust the neck on this thing because of a relief problem. Now, its about as bad as it started out again. I could adjust the truss again, but I fear it will just end up back in the same place.

My question is, is there any hope for this neck, or should I just get a replacement?

(p.s. sorry if this has been posted before, I did search)

Joshua is right - neck adjustments can be a routine thing. Changes in temp/humidity, change of string gauge or type, or even playing style can all lead to having to make adjustments. Is it a new bought J? It may also take a few adjustments before the neck settles in.
Dont sweat it, just make the adjustment carefully and keep an eye on it, sometimes it takes a few adjustments to get it to where it needs to be.

Well, I’ll adjust again, I think. I know that it can be routine, it just worries me because it seems like a big adjustment both times. (its about 1 mm right now and i like to keep it under .3)

oh, and sry about the blank profile, I'll edit it later.

You could try putting a humidifier or two in the case. They are little things you soak in water then put in your case. They're about $5/piece and can really help prevent neck prob's. Some guys loosen the strings every time they get done playing, but that never really made sense to me cuz I would think even tension would be better than loading and unloading tension. I recently began using light gauge rotosound strings, I like the tone and relaxed feel, but I would have to think they put less tension on the neck as well. If none of that helps, you may just have a crappy neck, it happens.
