Neck pup pot scratchy\crapping out.

The neck pickup pot on my Precision Special craps out kinda.

Reason I'm saying kinda is because sometimes it's fine, sometimes it's not.

For example, at rehearsal Saturday, I had both pickups dimed during a song. At the end of the song I went to turn them down to zero and noticed only the bridge pickup was working. Not sure at what point during the song the neck pup crapped out. I fiddled with the neck pot and it came back up.

Any ideas what the issue could be?

The bass is a 2002. I bought it used, so it's possible it's just old and dirty and may need cleaning or possible resolder?

TIA, I don't know anything about guitar electronics!

Dirty pot. For a quick, short-term fix, rapidly turn it back and forth. Eventually you need solder a new pot in there. They are cheap.

I've had good luck cleaning pots with tuner cleaner you can get a can at Radio Shack for a few bucks (the stuff was originally designed for the old rotary TV tuners).

if you cant get contact cleaner (see above) you cab try WD40 as a makeshift till you get a new pot, just squirt it in the pot either from above where the knob attaches, or from under the pickguard.

i would say try cleaning 1st as soldering pots with out experience can be a pain
