Neck replacement question

Sign in to disble this ad
If the original neck on the bass is a 34" scale with 20 frets can I replace it with a 34" scale neck with 22 frets? Without having the necks side by side I don't understand how you fit the extra frets on the neck. Is the neck longer, requiring a deeper pocket cut into the body?

Depends on the neck. There are some necks that have a fretboard "overhang" that actually extends past the actual neck. Warmoth has these. Only concern would be whether or not you have enough room before it hits the pickup. But, if you want the extra frets, and the hangover fits, as long as the scale is the same, you should be fine.
