neck replacement on a Squier

Sign in to disble this ad
hi
i own a Squier Vintage Modified Fretless Jazz bass
i like its sound
but i dont like the lines on the neck
because of the look but also because of a little "bzzz" that makes when i slide my fingers slide over the line.
So i want to replace the neck
i am thinking of a Warmoth or Rockinger neck
Will they fit in my bass?
Do you know something about
The Squier's construction is like Fender's, so i could fit a used Fender Jazz neck?
Any other idea?
Thanks in advance

Giannis

have you had the bass professionaly setup? that imo would be your first port of call.

second: yes both fender, warmoth and various other companies (mightymite / allparts) that make fender spec necks will fit up to your squire.... by rights but sometimes a small ammount of modification is required, but not a whole lot.

Have you considered just fixing up the existing neck? If there's a buzz crosssing the fret lines, that can be cured with a bit of sanding and sealing. And the visual impact of the fret lines can be reduced with a bit of stain, or in the worst case by replacing the lines with a darker material. Sure seems like a better option to me than replacing the entire neck.

The material of the neck of this Bass is ebonol
it is synthetic, something like plastic
this is another reason i want to change it
and this is the reason i can't seal the lines or hide them
it's not wood

Thank you

Giannis,

This was my experience... hope it helps.

One of my basses is a Squier PJ, which I modded with EMG actives.
Loved the tone with the EMGs, loved the feel and playability of
the bass, but something was not quite right with the neck... I
tried adjustments, fret leveling, etc but nothing seemed to help.

I tried a cheap (factory second) SX neck (25.00), and I'm just
amazed at just how much the Squier neck was a piece of junk.
I have since heard from many others who have had the same experience.
Once I had the original neck off, just tapping in on the floor
produced some strange rattling and vibrations. Just how much
of the bass's tone was being lost in this neck I'll never know.

If a 25.00 factory second (blems) made this much of a difference,
Just think what a Warmoth (Mighty Mite, or anything else) would
do for you...

I'd give it a shot.

Sorry, I should have paid more attention. I missed the bit about the brand/model.

I have the same bass and snapped the truss rod. I replaced it with a Warmoth neck. I have to say, it was worth every penny. Warmoth necks have a great feel (I just did a light coat of Danish oil), do not require many truss rod adjustments, and have an amazing sound with no dead spots. My neck is bubinga with an ebony board, so it is a bit top heavy, but I rarely notice unless I am playing it sitting down (rare).
