Neck swap help

Sign in to disble this ad
First, I've done a search and these threads usually degenerate into a "why do that anyway?" discussion. I would like to avoid that.
Ok, I am trying to swap necks from my fretless Lakland US JO to a USA Glaub P/J. They are essentially the same exact neck. Same pockets, everything. THough, after removing the necks, I am having a hard time fitting the necks back on. I don't want to force it and damage the wood. Help? thoughts?

Why would you want to do that, anyway?

ahhhhh,
ok.. quick update. The fretless neck fits fine in each bass. The fretted seems just a tad wide.
thoughts?

It sounds like the finish on the fretted neck is slightly thicker than on the fretless. Might need to lightly sand the finish to get it to fit. When reinstalling a neck I prefer line the neck up with the neck pocket and then push the neck down into the pocket to seat it as opposed to sliding the neck into the neck pocket.

thanks.. I'll tinker a little bit. I'm just nervous about cracking the finish if I try forcing it. I might take your suggestion and sand it down. I appreciate it
