Neck swap SX p neck onto SX jazz bass

Sign in to disble this ad
anyone tried this? they sell the necks for $40 with no nut. id have to glue one on and then try the swap to know for sure if it works. Im not even close to a luthier. Otherwise I could buy a cheap P and just do the swap, maybe even sell the P with the jazz neck. Any experience or advice?

Yeah, it'll work. I've put SX necks on Squier, Fender and other SX bodies with no trouble. The screw holes don't always line up though, so you might have to plug the old holes and make new ones if you get a neck that already has them drilled.

Yeah, I've done it too...

Picked up an SX "2nd" for 25.00, bought a fine wood saw, measured
about 20 times, compared it to other necks for nut position,
and then cut in a new nut. If you are careful, slow and
steady, you won't have a problem. Get some fine files to do
the final depth and inside edges.

I will tell you this... that 25.00 neck, although it has some
physical imperfections on the back (looks like brown sharpie
lines in places), turned out to be WAY better than the Squire
neck it replaced... the Squire neck looked and played like
junk in comparison.

good luck with yours... and don't think too long on it,
those necks go pretty fast when they are available.

hope this helps,
Dave

I think the ones they have right now are slotted already for a nut, just no nut included. That might be a better option than buying a PJ bass and swapping the necks.

I've done it about three or four times, so yeah, it'll work.

Their descriptions can be wrong as well. I've ordered a couple of necks that said no nut was included and they came with a nut. So you never know.

well I have this sx 62 J bass

and I thought about getting this sx PJ bass

can you tell I like bursts?

and swapping the necks, but knowing me id just leave the P alone and get another neck too. decisions decisions. if I sold some gear, Id be all over this like flies on ... specially if I found a sweet deal on better pickups and pots.
