ARE NECK TWISTS INEVITABLE?

Sign in to disble this ad
I read many posts here about twisted necks...is this inevitable with time? or is it bad luck, badly set up guitars?, too high string tension? a mix of all these things? or something else?
What helps minimise the risk?

Neck twist appears if the string's tension are fairly unbalanced. Skinny, 1-piece necks are prone to that.

If you play with dropped low strings or raised higher strings, warpage will occur.

If you want to avoid warped necks, stay away from traditionally built ones. Laminate necks are very good, even the cheapest Spectors have 3-piece necks. Graphite reinforcement also helps. Bunker & Treker "Tension free" are also excellent. And of course, graphite ones never change their shape.
