Neck vs. Slapping

Sign in to disble this ad
Since around april, my standard J-bass has been plagued with incessant backbow and fret buzz. I've had my local luthier adjust the truss rod three times in three months, each of which yielded amazing tonal results. Unfortunately, these results are also temporary, and as soon as I start slapping, the neck gradually returns to bow. Is this happenstance? Does my slapping lead to an influx of string tension, leading to buzz and bow? All I want is to be able to play my J-bass freely without the paranoia of "Is my neck bowing?"

well weather can cause a lot of problems with your basses neck. is the neck bolted tight? get some lighter gauge strings so it'll be less tension, and don't tune anything sharper than standard. and learn to adjust the truss rod yourself

If you slightly turn the truss rod as soon as you notice the backbow you'll have no problem keeping the neck where you want it.
