Neck wont relief... too much back bow even w/ loosened truss rod - EBMM

Sign in to disble this ad
So, here's the deal. Just bought a EMBB Sterling 5 (ball family reserve model) at GC a couple weeks ago. It was marked down, floor model, so got a good deal on it. Got it home, put on some new strings, and realized that the truss rod was tightened like all the way. I loosened it up since the neck is a bit back-bowed. It's been almost 2 weeks now, and the neck isn't showing any signs of changing direction.

So, is this something out of my control? I'm not familiar with the EBMM truss rod control... is there a specific technique for adjusting the truss rods on the EBMMs?

Also, the weather has been changing, going from pretty hot to snowing, pretty much over night. How much would that be affecting the neck?

What are your thoughts? Should I be returning this since the neck or truss rod is shot, or just wait it out?

Thanks

Contact EBMM customer service. They're great, and they'll fix you up.

When you say you loosened it up, how far did you turn the Allen key? A quarter turn is from what I've read as much as you should do each day and then leave the neck to adjust itself. If still not right, thn repeat.

If you've only done one quarter turn or less, then I'd give it another quarter turn, leave it day and repeat if it's still not right.

It's deff been more than one quarter turn. I've been checking it every couple days and giving another turn.

Does it have a dual action truss rod?

Thanks for the tip... called them up, and I don't think I've ever called a better customer support!

The tech said the truss rod might be stuck and to apply some pressure on the neck to help guide the bow back. He said I should hear a little pop or crack, meaning the rod unstuck. Followed his advice, heard the pop, and now the buzz is going away and from what I can tell the relief is coming back. It will probably take a little time for it to fully adjust since it was tweaked for so long.

Thanks for the advice guys.
