neckdive, which are liter?

Sign in to disble this ad
I've got a small problem with neckdive on my mustang bass, when I'm not holding it up it likes to sit parallel to the ground. I was thinking of buying hipshot ultralites or just some smaller tuners to counteract this.

Are the tuners with the smaller more modern pegs lighter than the vintage clover shaped ones? Does anyone recommend ultralites or is there a brand that is lite and good and not expensive?

Hipshot ultralites or gotoh tuners are probably the way to go for light tuners, HOWEVER, both require smaller pegholes than your bass probably has. Someone correct me if I'm wrong but normal tuners are usually 11/16" holes, gotoh are 7/16", and hipshot 9/16". You can still fix the neckdive. I've heard of people moving the location of the strap post on Thunderbirds to help correct neck dive, but I personally haven't so I'd ask someone else about that. You could also add weight to the back of the bass to offset the weight of the neck, I've heard of putting a roll of pennies in the control cavity.

You can also try a really thick, leather strap (4"+) - a nice, soft, thick leather strap my go a long way toward holding that neck up.

they do need smaller pegholes but I use them on my MIA Jazz, you just have to put the top washer upside down to center the post in the hole

The Ultralites are available in a 1/2" diameter post version that is designed to work with the 11/16 peg hole. They are about 1/2 the weight of the standard Fender tuners and are available in the Clover key or the more modern Y-Key configuration.

Say John,

What other name has your store gone by?

(this isn't a bad thing- just a name change- I've only heard the best things about John's prices and service!!!)
