Need advice on a new bass tuning

Sign in to disble this ad
I have a Fender Jass Bass with a Badass II that I would like to use a cello tuning on. The cello is strung from low to high as C-G-D-A.

Should I just tune it myself, or are there any experienced set-up people out there in the new york area that could do this comfortably?

Could there be any potential problems with string tension or playability with this tuning? I'm reticant to just tune it on my own for fear of damaging the bass.

Thank you for any insight.

The only consideration is the fact that it's almost an octave above bass tuning, so you're going to need significantly lighter strings.

I'm planning on keeping it in the same range. Just by tuning the E down to a C, the A up to a G, leaving the D alone, and the G up a step to an A.

This should work just fine right?

Okay, then you may want to adjust string gauges a TAD... something like a .110 / .80 / .60 / .40 sounds like it'd do it... Basically a light gauge set with a heavier D... however I just checked it out, E string gets incredibly floppy, but other than that, it'll work with standard strings.

You might want to get a thicker string for the low C, like a light gauge B, .125 or .120, unless you on adjusting your bridge to make more tension.
