Need a bridge with a HUGE base plate

Sign in to disble this ad
It's for this bass which has a cutout for the horrible 3 point bridge, which is bent and missing 2 saddles, so i can't use it even if I wanted to. The 3 point bridge doesn't match up size-wise with the schaller replacement or an epi/gibson bridge so I am stuck. The area for the 3 point bridge is routed a 1/8 in deep or so, so I have to cover up the whole hole with a bridge with a large base plate.

I know a traben bridge would do it but I am looking for something more conventional and regular looking.

An all brass bridge would be a plus too.

Any ideas?

Joe

I bought this bass like this - someone has done a beautiful job of carving a piece of maple to make an exact fit:

What's the bass in first post? It looks like a Matsumoku job. Vantage maybe?

Yes it is a vantage. i posted another question in the bass section wondering about the model. the makei s vantage.

VERY nice on the maple fill in job. I don't like the idea of a fender chrome cover though.

Just cut a plain brass plate to fit and then mount whatever bridge to that.

What about a Hipshot?
Even if holes don't feet and you need to re-drill, it would be wide enough to hide misery.
Whatever you use, you may have to dig into the body anyway. Old neckthru instruments tend to bend at the heel and need this kind of adjustment.

It won't line up with the hipshot. (It will be barely off which will cause big problems... and the hipshot is pretty expensive.

Joe,
Those regular cheap twist bits are fine for metal. And brass is very soft. May not HAVE to even lube it - but I would.
So drilling is super easy.
And, how are your woodworking skills?
With the proper tools to layout the well, creating a block to fit it may be easy too.
Or.....you really only have to cover the part of the well that will be exposed, right? Maybe easier yet!

What the hell does that mean? a hipshot bridge is made out of the same amount of aluminium as as an aircraft? That would be a good deal then...
