need help with adjusting my guitar. got my new nut on it.

took it to the shop. he put a nut on and also put on a set of strings for $25.00. seems fair?
but the thing is i still have to adjust the bridge area. the bottom of the guitar where u put the string through. he gave me a tool for it. i know what to do with it just dont know how to adust or if it should be high or low. i hope all this makes since but please help

$25 is fair price

I'm guessing he gave you an Allen wrench (hexagonal wrench) for adjusting the saddle heights. Each saddle has a couple of screw type things that determine how far off the body your strings are. You want them high enough so that when you play notes the strings don't buzz against the frets.

yes i know what he gave me i have alot of them my dad has ALOT of tools.
how high should they be? i turn the screw to the right to make them high.

Since your dad has a lot of tools, ask him for a 6" mechanics ruler.
Needs to be graduated in 32nds and 64ths.

Then go to the Fender website and pull up the Setting up a Bass video, and look in one of the Fender Precision bass manuals for factory string height.

Adjusting the saddle height will put your bass out of intonation, so you will need to intonate it. Really simple and the instructions are all over the web and youtube.

I typically like very low action, but recently am putting all my basses up a little higher. I find that I'm hitting a lot harder now, don't tap and need the picking space.
