Need help with my Jazz Bass

Sign in to disble this ad
Well to make a long story short,I've had a Fender Jazz (mexican) collecting dust for much too long.
One day the whole D string started hitting dead notes on every fret past the 7th.
I got it fixed.
About a year later it started doing it on the E string.

Through the course of time and money I bought other basses and neglected fixing my Jazz.
I really know next to nothing about fixing my bass.(I know shame on me).

Though I do remember last time I got it repaired the guy at the shop said it would do me good to replace the bridge.
But i'm finally getting around to solving it.
But I have a question.
If I replace the whole bridge, could this potentialy solve the problem all together?
Or is their too many other possible problems to consider before I throw down money on a replacement bridge?

Thanks,

Repair noob

There's too many factors involved to say that your bridge needs replacing - but my guess is, that you don't. Are the bridge saddles slipping? You can always adjust them with a screwdriver or allen wrench.

You might just need a routine setup.

The truss rod may need checking out. There could be a problema with the bridge saddles or the nut. permutations/combinations of all could mean a professional should really look after setting-up the works.Could even be duff strings!!?!
Take it to the techie.
