Need help on taking the knobs out on my jazz bass

Sign in to disble this ad
I trying to replace the knobs on my fender jazz bass so it have chrome knobs like the p bass.

I've got the right size allen key and successfully take one knob out but the other 2 is so tight that i cannot take them out. It is really tight that is almost impossible to unscrew them out.

Is their a way i can unscrew those knobs out?

try spraying a little WD-40 into the set screw hole to free it up.

BUT! make sure you protect the finish of your bass with some cloths or something

also be as sparing as possible, because you don't really want the WD-40 getting inside the actual pot underneath because it can cause it to go a bit wierd.

but it should be fine if you're careful.

Once you have the set screw loose, put masking tape down to protect the finish on both sides of the knob and use spoons under the edges of the knob at 180 degrees to lever it upward gently.

If you can't get the set screws loose, you'll probably have to drill them out and replace the knob or re-thread the hole to accept a larger set screw. Unless you're both competent and careful with power tools, don't do that yourself - too easy to damage the finish on your bass.

my jazz bass just has the knobs without screw locks, but the spoon really does work well.
