Need help with Warwick neck

Sign in to disble this ad
Hello, first off let me say hello to all of you... I just joined about 10 mins ago! I am part of a number of other forums for unrelated things, and I thought it was about time to join one for another love of my life.

I have a Warwick Corvette FNA Jazzman 4 stringer that has been giving me problems since the day I bought it used at a Guitar Center. It has a bow where there is more relief on the bass side. I brought it back imediately and they sent it back to Warwick (maybe they just "said" they did??) to have it fixed. It came back better, but not what I had hoped for.

Recently, I had it set up by a professional and although it wasnt perfect, I decided it was well enough and thanked the man for his work.

Well, this was about a month ago, and since then it has progresssively worked its way back nearly to where it started from. He said that the next step would be to use some type of infared light. He said he had as fender that it was done to and it worked wonders.

Has anyone heard of this method?? Or any other suggestions??

BTW.... any leads on how to get a replacement or copy neck??

Differing amounts of relief on either side of the neck is often an indication of a twist in the neck. One of the treatments for such a condition is to apply heat lamps (infra-red) to the neck while clamping it to correct the twist. This works sometimes - not always. Ask how much it will cost and if there is any guarantee - but don't be surprised if there is none. I don't know anybody who would be willing to guarantee the success of this procedure.

Having determined the cost, you can then decide if you want to take a chance, or if you would be more comfotable just getting a new neck (if you can).

Not to make light of your problem but some people pay extra for that type of thing...

As I've posted I don't know how many times here, my Thumb B.O. 5 developed a twist on the bass side of the neck.

I bought it used at GC (and the twist was not there when I got it; it happened about a year and a half after I got it). I contacted Warwick to see if I could buy a replacement neck, preferably made from maple, because I feared the neck would only twist again if I got it "fixed." I realize this can happen to any neck, but I'd feel better with a finished maple neck than an unfinished ovangkol neck.

To make this story short, Warwick told me they would not sell me a replacement neck. They sent my e-mail on to the tech at Dana B. Goods, and he told me they'd fix it at my expense (I didn't have it done).

If you want a new neck, your best bet is to see if you can find a luthier to build one for you, excepting, of course, the luthiers at Warwick, who will not. Stambaugh's Web site says he builds necks/bodies for replacement purposes, but I don't know if that's still true, or what the wait time will be.

Having had 3 Stambaughs built to order & bought one used I will say that he can build you a neck that will put the stock one to shame(this coming from an avowed Warwick fan, BTW). He can do wenge, maple, ash or whatever. Look him up, call him- he will likely answer the phone.

Try Dana B Goods. I know they don't deal with Warwick anymore but I recently called them and they sent me some knobs I was looking for and a couple Just A Nut 3's that they had left over. They didn't even charge me anything. They just wanted to get rid of the stuff. I mentioned it to a friend and he got the same treatment.

Maybe they have some necks left.
