Question NEED INFORMATION ABOUT TILT DISCS AND REPLACING A NECK

Sign in to disble this ad
I have a Fender Marcus Miller Jazz Bass body and I ordered a replacement neck that I am going to shave down to fit onto this body. In order to install this neck I am going to order the Fender 3-bolt neck plate that usually comes stock with a Fender Marcus Miller Jazz Bass.

In order to do this I was told by a parts company that I "will need the 3-bolt neck plate, one upper and one lower tilt disc, four wood screws to attach, one tilt set screw, one machine screw, and two regular neck wood screws. And I was told I'll have to route the neck to accept the tilt disc.

I am not sure what all this means, I need a brief explanation from someone with more knowledge than myself, the company is slow in getting back to me and aren't really helping me much. I want to learn about this stuff so I can do simple repairs and build my own instruments when I come across different parts.

So, with that being said, again I'm attaching a neck to a Fender Marcus Miller Jazz Bass. I need to order the neck plate, tilt discs, and proper screws to do this, but I need to know exactly what to order and how to properly install it all. I also am not sure what "route the neck to accept the tilt discs" means... do I have to cut into the wood to make room for both tilt discs? On the body I have, I see a place for maybe 1 tilt disc but even then I'm still not sure how to properly screw it into place. Please help, I'm a fast learner, I just need some guidance, I've never done this before but I'm eager to learn and am in no rush to complete this project. Hope I can find some help, I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

- Chris

Yes, but the MM body already has the rout, right?

Maybe you'll get a clearer idea of how things are constructed looking at these pix.

Right. All those parts are visible in these pix.
