Need metric screws for Kawai bass - where to buy?

Sign in to disble this ad
I just got a Kawai F-2B (I believe) bass from a yard sale, not sure the year, maybe 70s or 80s.

It's missing 4 of the 8 screws for the pickups, the problem is, it's apparently a weird size (at least for most places). I narrowed it down to a metric size, I believe it is:

M3, 0.5 pitch, 42mm length

Any ideas where I can find screws of this type? A quick search didn't provide much. The length is the odd bit I believe. Only a few hardware stores had M3s, but none longer than 20mm. Even Home Depot had nothing.

Thanks.

Yes. And they hold the pickups in, otherwise they'd pop out/hit strings.

ACE Hardware. if you need chrome plated ones, you can do a separate search for them. Stainless steel will often pass for chrome if polished with Simichrome.

@YL_Bass - No you're not, but I love Canada anyway.

@Pilgrim - Yeah, checked ACE too. They don't have any, either in store or online.

Yeah Deathblade, that looks right. although I need black, and preferably Phillips. They also don't look 40mm long in that picture, but maybe it's just me and maybe I'm being too picky..

Thanks!

You need a "real" fastener place. The parts bins at Home Depot/Lowes just won't do.

An import auto parts place..

IF you have an exact measurement, I can xreference it to a VW number..

Napa should have some in stock.

Here's your place.

However, I have had F2b's, and seen alot of others, and for some reason, other than their pickups are prone to burning out, all of them came with only two holddown screws in each pickup. Just about every one I've seen in pictures, are all the same. Don't bother calling them, 'cause nobody knows, and their are no parts available either. If you need pickups, you have to go afterrmarket. Pm me, if your pickups are junk, and I'll steer you in the proper direction.

I go to the local salvage / used / or industrial liquidator. Mine could take a few hours theres so much to try. How do you know the model. I have a kawai also but no model number. The only think on it is a sticker with 8000006 or 9000008 . Can't tell which. Its great but I have no idea what model. I'm not even sure what some of the controls do.
Good luck

I needed the same screws for a Kawai bass I had once. You can order them from the Bolt Depot (Bolt Depot.com).
I ordered product# 6840 (metric machine screws, phillips pan head, stainless A-2 (18-8), 3mm x .5 x 40mm).
They worked great (provided you still have the threaded inserts mounted in the body)!
Total cost for four pieces? $9.75 including shipping!
