Don't mean to sound crass here. BTW, welcome to TB. Take it to the shop, get a quote, and have them replace it if it is in your budget. Asking us won't get it done.

Regular nut blanks are $2.45-$4 in Stew-Mac's newest catalog.

You can splurge for pre-formed ones, and designer ones. If your dad doesn't have tools for it, getting one pre-formed to the right radius would be good. Price still below $10.

I don't know dimensions for a Samick, sorry.

This is a job for someone who knows what they are doing. It's not going to be very expensive anyway, so if you want the results to be usable, take it in.

I sorta think since the parts are so cheap, it's a good project for a boy to do with his dad. Buy a couple of blanks, if at first you don't succeed...

But yeah, cheap at a shop, too.

But it's not cheap. You can't just buy a nut and stick it in the slot. You need a $$$$ file set. And it's very delicate work to get the right depth.

I replaced a broken nut in my Fender Deluxe jazz bass with a pre-slotted brass nut. It took all of ten minutes for my nephew and me to do. The brass nut cost about $13.00 from Guitarpartsresource.com.

I got my guitar last night. still got my fender pbass to play on. but i also went and bough 2 nuts and im gonna take the old one out and he is gonna sand it and form it to fit. i cant wait to plug this guitar up to my crate 115watt. we got the tools. moms always saying to many. ha ha

my dad has restored cars for over 50 years i imagine he knows how to replace a nut on a guitar. he does all the work on his cars himself and when he was about 20-25 years old a man told him. "son, you could put a Cadillac in a cabbage" ha ha i dont think he has ever tried but he has made some crazy cars. like a vw beetle with a 427 in it would catch the tires on fire
