Smile Need New Tuning Machines

Hey guys. I need some help finding tuning machines that will drop into my Warwick 5 String Corvette Standard. Its German-made if that makes a difference. I would rather not drill new holes. I can put up pics if needed. thanks!

What don't you like about the current ones?
What brand/model are they?
What's your budget?

1. The current ones are falling apart and are junk.
2. I'm not sure what they are. I think they are warwick generic ones. but they don't say anything on them.
3. The cheaper the better, but I'm willing to pay a decent amount for higher quality tuners that will last and hold tune very well. I'm not familiar with what good tuners run.

Most tuning machines have exposed gears, which your Warwick Corvette does not. If you like the concealed gears, then you should look at Gotoh. If exposed gears are acceptable, include Hipshot and Schaller:
http://www.allparts.com/Bass-Tuning-Keys-s/171.htm
http://www.warmoth.com/Tuning-Machines-C208.aspx

Some are sold individually, others in sets, hence the price disparities. The per/tuner cost ranges from ~$13 to $45. If you go for the cheapest, don't expect wonders.

You will need to know the diameter of the holes in your headstock, which will probably require removing one of the tuners, and measuring accurately. Even if you don't need to enlarge the large holes, you may have to drill new (blind) pilot holes for the anti-rotation screws.

Most of the manufacturers of tuning machines maintain a database that cross-references basses to their appropriate replacement tuners. So far I have only queried Hipshot, regarding Ultralites for a Squier, and they responded promptly to my e-mail.

warwick switched from using real Gotoh tuners to imitation warwick brand tuners which are made in korea. this is true even for the german made models. i'm reasonably certain that this is what you need:

If you contact hipshot directly, they will recommend tuners. They are very cool.

Based off what you said, I ordered the Gotoh stuff and I just installed them. They fit into the original holes and feel great. Can't wait to string it up this weekend!
